Welcome
The Southdown Gliding Club welcomes ALL visitors and you can learn more about the club, and the sport through this website. The club was founded in 1930, and the webcam view below shows our airfield looking North East towards the trailer park. We successfully purchased our airfield and buildings from our landlord in January 2009. Currently we have over 250 members, which makes us one of the oldest and largest (all volunteer) gliding clubs in the United Kingdom. Young and want to fly, but not sure if you can afford it.? Check the Cadet Scheme for details. If you have any other questions about the club or our services, please check our FAQ and Fees pages. Alternatively, you can call the office weekday mornings (9:30-12:00, Mon - Fri) and speak to Jackie by dialing 01903 742137 or by clicking on the "Gliding Enquiries" button on the left hand menu. Please note we can accept bookings online, over the telephone or in person, payment by debit or credit card is acceptable and you can buy a gift voucher for someone else as a present.

I gave up on the Caravan Club a couple of years ago - at that time ok in UK, but 7m length limit in Europe. Check policy details carefully.

My car insurance with Churchill has no restriction on length of trailer but will not cover damage to the trailer or recovery of it.

Looked into trailer insurance a long time ago - the only way I could get cover, including recovery, was by joining the Caravan Club and they do a deal with the RAC which will cover ALL trailers.

Regarding the insurance issue, can we continue the debate on the Discussion Forum?

Time to check just what you are covered for when towing a glider trailer with your car. I have just been told by Direct Line that they will NOT cover me when towing a trailer in excess of 6m.
