Lessons can be taken all year round. In the winter months (October to March) you can fly on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, taking your turn with others wishing to fly. In the summer months (April to October) Friday is a dedicated Trial Lesson Day, and it is possible to book  a slot in advance. Trial Lessons can be taken on other club flying days in the summer, but you would have to take your turn to fly. Please check with the office or our Events Calendar to avoid disappointment.

After a ground briefing you will be aerotowed to 2,500 feet, then the instructor will explain the action of the controls and guide you through some simple manoeuvres for a flight lasting approximately 20 - 30 minutes.

If you would like a Trial Lesson Voucher click here to buy online or send a cheque for £90 made payable to Southdown Gliding Club Ltd, advising us of the name of the person who will be flying. Don't forget to tell us your address. You can also purchase a voucher over the phone with your debit or credit card. Simply call our office and speak to Jackie any week day morning on 01903 742137 or to send an email, click on "Gliding Enquiries" on the left hand menu.

If you prefer, you will be welcome to come along and have a look round the club first. Subject to availability, and weather permitting, you can book and pay for a flight on the day. We accept cash or cheque supported by a cheque card. Because we are weather dependent and do not fly in rain or excessive wind, we do not pre-book trial lesson times (except on Fridays), so do come early to get your name on the flying list or call the club early on the day to check availability of Trial Lessons.

If you want to check if a day is suitable, call the office on 01903 742137 (Weekday mornings) or alternatively, you can call the clubhouse on 01903 746706 and ask to speak to the duty instructor.

Your second Trial Lesson will only cost £75.

Rodders many thanks for pairing up with me on Mondays flight. Despite the poor conditions it was a most enjoyable experience, made all the standing around in the freezing cold worth it, cheers !

I gave up on the Caravan Club a couple of years ago - at that time ok in UK, but 7m length limit in Europe. Check policy details carefully.

My car insurance with Churchill has no restriction on length of trailer but will not cover damage to the trailer or recovery of it.

Looked into trailer insurance a long time ago - the only way I could get cover, including recovery, was by joining the Caravan Club and they do a deal with the RAC which will cover ALL trailers.

Regarding the insurance issue, can we continue the debate on the Discussion Forum?

Time to check just what you are covered for when towing a glider trailer with your car. I have just been told by Direct Line that they will NOT cover me when towing a trailer in excess of 6m.
